Planning your rehearsal (do we need one?)

Here you'll find hints to help you decide whether or not you need a rehearsal, and some tips for even if you don't. If you do have a rehearsal, don't forget the standard questions you should ask all vendors apply to this as well.

  1. Many people will tell you a rehearsal is not necessary. This depends on several factors. The two most important are the intricacies of your ceremony arrangements, and how well the two parties (bridal and groom's) know one another. Listen to your officiant on this one. They will know best.
  2. If there are any issues relating to divorced parents, or other members of either party that don't get along, let the officiant know about this and any plans you have to deal with it prior to the rehearsal if they will be present.
  3. Regardless of whether you have a reception, have a party. Make it as casual and relaxing as possible. Provide an opportunity for everyone to meet one another. On the beach or on the lake at sunset is ideal for this. AboutLakeTahoe has an excellent beach guide in addition to sunset information.
  4. If this is a destination wedding, you should invite as many people as possible to the rehearsal celebration. It can be uncomfortable to invite someone to travel far away from home and then not invite them to a party when they get there.
  5. Limit the duration of the event to avoid excessive partying. Let the guests save that for the wedding.
